Quotes of the Day:

Government cripples you, then hands you a crutch and says, 'See, if it wasn't for us, you couldn't walk.'
-- Harry Browne

"If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when its free."
-- P. J. ORourke

Subject: Ron Paul's health care bill

Yesterday we encouraged you to ask Congress to begin cutting spending. The reason: the federal government owes $53.3 trillion in unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare. We also warned of big spending threats that may contribute to making this crisis even worse . . .

* Continued war as far as the eye can see
* New federal "social" spending

With regard to the latter, proposed new federal health care programs threaten to sink America's financial ship while making health care both greater in expense and lower in quality. We will explain why this is so next week. And even better, we'll unveil the solution!

Congressman Ron Paul has a bill that would solve the problem. We'll be launching a new campaign to promote this bill next week. Meanwhile . . .

Congress is in recess, and now is a good time to load them down with messages about their profligate spending. Let's give them a real shock when they come back to work. We need to make them see the connection between the unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare, and their unworkable plans for more federal spending on health care.

Toward this end, please send a message to Congress on our old health care campaign, which asks Congress to not spend any more money on health care at the federal level.

This campaign makes a Constitutional argument Ron Paul would appreciate. The 10th Amendment forbids Congress to spend any money on things like health care. If such things are to be done, they are only legally permissible at the state and local level.

We want to hit Congress with three punches: unfunded liabilities yesterday, unconstitutional spending today, a better approach to the health care problem next week. You can send your message here.

Please also consider making a contribution to further our work. We only have 9 days to meet budget for February, and we still have to raise $3,585. That works out to just 16 cents per Dispatch subscriber. Most of our subscribers won't contribute however, so your gift of $1,000, $500, $250, $100, $75, $50, $25, or $10, will cover a lot of ground. Or, a monthly pledge would help us build for the future. And all donors and pledgers will receive a copy of "The Downsize DC Vision." You can contribute here.

Thanks for being a part of the growing Downsize DC Army.
