A Downsizer called his representatives about
warrantless spying and telecom immunity, and wrote to us about it:
I called both offices, talked to staffers and left them my strong feelings using your comments along with my own.
I told her in the end that we are under attack from within by our own leaders and corporations worse than anything the muslims could ever do to us. She said "I heartily understand what you're saying". She also agreed that things are bad and she said so too. She lowered her voice and said "its bad up here right now". I think its more than just lobbying. I think these guys in office may be threatened from the sounds of her voice and what she said. I thanked her.
Of course, it's impossible to know if members of Congress are being threatened, how they are threatened, or by whom. But it is safe to say that on many votes, there are several members of Congress who are placed under enormous pressure by Congressional leaders, the Administration, or lobbyists. That means it is up to us to give them the courage to do the right thing with our calls and messages.
