Medical Marijuana Victory!
Posted by James Wilson

DownsizeDC.org has campaigned to prevent federal raids in states that permit medical marijuana. Congress has gotten closer to doing this each year, but the Bush Administration constantly blocked the effort.

Barack Obama pledged to change the policy if elected, and Attorney General Holder repeated the pledge earlier in the year. Now it's official:

Federal drug agents won't pursue pot-smoking patients or their sanctioned suppliers in states that allow medical marijuana.

Victory was a long time coming, but we are glad that Obama has honored his promise.

We're still curious where the Constitution gives Congress the authority for drug prohibition.

You can ask Congress where it gets this authority here.

We also think Congress should cite its Constitutional authority for every bill it passes. You can tell Congress to pass the Enumerated Powers Act here.
